“Wave of litigation” predicted after HMRC clamp down

Specialist tax lawyers at Withers are predicting, “a wave of litigation”, following HMRC clamp down on the use of tax avoidance schemes.

With HMRC aiming to reclaim tax from around 33,000 individuals by April 2016, investors and promoters of these schemes and their financial advisors are in the spotlight.

In an interview with the FT, Withers special counsel Tessa Lorimer predicts claims against the professional indemnity policies of accountants and IFAs who put the schemes in place, whilst partner Roberto Moruzzi explains why a group action could be preferable to expensive individual actions.
